Technology Commercialisation

Innovators & research teams often battle with taking their created technology into commercialisation. Our support is geared towards appropriate & contextual support to adopt practical & feasible commercialisation planning so that they can bridge this gap.

We support innovators & research teams in planning & executing the commercialisation of their technologies. Many of these are research teams from tertiary & research institutions who are envisioning a spin-out company to commercialise their innovations or inventions.

The support project is designed as a bespoke intervention, addressing the specific needs of the invention team or individual inventor. In many cases, the most impactful support is provided through an initial coaching programme of up to 30 hours, during which the team is guided in applying commercialisation concepts to their specific context. The outcome of such a project typically consists of a Commercialisation Model. This model addresses the key elements of a commercialisation plan, delivered in a short & accessible document format.

Each element of the support is delivered through the EPI’s coaching approach, where the team or inventor is supported by a Commercialisation Coach to develop the model based on their vision & the essential components of a viable commercialisation plan.

Examples are  commercialisation coaching projects implemented for the university Technology Transfer Offices (TTOs), such as recently concluded for Tshwane University of Technology where government’s Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) mandated the university’s TTO to appoint the EPI in supporting the four researchers who developed a multiplex infectious disease testing & screening device.
